Frequently ASKED QUESTIONS

Ontario Mosquito Control

Can my children play in the yard during a Mosquito Squad treatment?
Children and pets should be kept away during application and for the proceeding time it takes for the treatment to dry. If your children's skin or clothes come in contact with the spray before it dries, t
ake off contaminated clothing and rinse skin immediately with plenty of water for 15-20 minutes. Once our application dries there is no re-entry period. When dry, there is little opportunity for the product to transfer to dry people or pets that brush against the vegetation.

How long does it take to do the barrier spray treatment and how long will it last?
A typical treatment of a half-acre property will average 30-45 minutes. Larger yards may take longer to treat. Based on our experience, our clients have experienced mosquito reductions for up to 60 days. We offer a service guarantee for the first 14 days in case the reduction is not to the customer's satisfaction. However, we recommend a re-treatment every 3 to 4 weeks to keep mosquito from repopulating the area.

How much does it cost?
Each property is unique and we customize each barrier spray application to successfully treat your mosquito problem. We price our applications based on the size and density of foliage of your property and the amount of chemical that we will need to use. As a general rule, the pricing on our services page is the maximum price you would pay for your property. I.E. If your property is 2 acres, we may only need to spray 3/4 to 1 acre worth of your property to effectively treat your property.

You contact us any time for a free quote and we usually don’t even need to visit your property. Our trained agents will be able to take your property address, look it up using our computer program, and assess your property size to give you an accurate quote.

What chemicals are being used in my yard and are they safe?
There are two main products used in our mosquito treatment. The first is an all-natural repellent product, however, our main barrier spray insecticides are pyrethroids. Pyrethroids are used in numerous products that are available over the counter to consumers, such as, household insecticides, pet shampoos and sprays, and even lice shampoos. We spray Pyrethroids on shrubs, low lying trees, your foundation, mulch beds, etc. All chemicals we use are approved under both the Federal Pest Control Products Act and the Provincial Pesticides Act.

Will the smell of the all-natural spray repel me?
It shouldn’t. The odour of the all-natural spray is mild to the human nose and should be completely unnoticeable within hours.

Will Ontario Mosquito Control kill all the mosquitoes on my property?
No service can offer 100% protection from every mosquito. As you might imagine, a mosquito from a neighbouring property could wander into your yard and bite you before landing on the treated foliage. However, you’ll find that the presence of mosquitoes is enormously reduced.

Do I need to be home for the treatments?
No. As long as your gate is unlocked and your pets are inside, our technician can treat. And we’ll leave a notice so you know for certain that your service has been provided.

Can I just get a one-time treatment for a special outdoor party?
Yes. We have a special event barrier spray available for everything from a small birthday party to a huge wedding reception. Special event treatment is provided 24-72 hours before the event and will remain effective even if it rains.

Do you spray the grass?
Mosquitoes do not usually seek shelter in the grass. Our goal in doing a pre-spray walk of the property is to seek out the "hot spots" where mosquitoes will be loafing. The most common areas to find mosquitoes during the day include: the underside of the leaves of dense/shrubby plants, under decks and in damp shady areas of the property. We do recommend that you keep your grass short during the mosquito season. In some cases such as special events like weddings and large outdoor parties, we will spray the grass where your guests will be.

What if it rains after my yard has been treated?
As long as your yard has had adequate time to dry and bind to the plants after the application of your treatment, normal rain should not impact the effectiveness of our service.
